“It's a world of laughter, a world of tears,
It's a world of hopes, and a world of fears,
There's so much that we share, that it's time we're aware,
It's a small world after all”
—Disney’s “It’s a Small World”
What’s the Dispo Community?! It’s a place where you can live in the moment to create memories and be yourself. Yeah, yeah, yeah, maybe it’s a little bit corny, but we want Dispo to be like that it’s a small world ride at Disneyland! That starts with a community that has an overwhelming feeling of promoting all that is good in the world. And so we’ve got to have norms that uphold these goals. Vulnerability, honesty, and authenticity have a place on Dispo. Violating privacy, spamming, and otherwise breaking trust- yeah, those do not. We are all old enough to have seen where social media falls short, and we want a community that genuinely uplifts all our lives.
Who is responsible for upholding these values? Nobody is perfect, but we all should. Yes, that means you. You “friend” someone for a reason. It’s because you are offering a digital olive branch to include them in your life and community. Take a walk in someone else’s shoes. Empathy is one of the world’s great superpowers! The overarching theme of these guidelines is: would this behavior exist in the world we all want to create? If not, it doesn’t belong on Dispo. Please report it. Say something. Our community team also has the right to limit what you post through blocking or deleting content, suspending or banning accounts. Just like in a family or society at large, we will use our best judgment to be consistent and fair. Hold us to it. Email support@dispo.fun.
And so with that, here are some guidelines to live by:
DO’S
- The golden rule: Treat others like you want to be treated. This is simple, and you’ve heard it before, but if this is the only thing you remember you will be great.
- Be kind. It’s fine to disagree and criticize, but don’t be a bully.
- Be yourself. Don’t impersonate other people or things. It’s fine to be a parody, GIF, or other altered content piece, but don’t pass it off as the real thing. And we reserve the right to reassign usernames of public figures to their rightful owners. You can have one username- there’s no squatting. Users must meet the age guidelines as specified in the terms of service. If they do not, once identified, we will remove them.
- Post your content: Respect intellectual property including copyright and trademark law. Credit other people’s work and get their permission. What you create on Dispo is your property. We don’t own it.
- Respect privacy. Someone’s content is their own. Private information is not to be posted without others’ consent. If someone blocks you, don’t continue to reach out to them through intermediaries or other accounts. Respect their privacy.
- Promote the truth. Now more than ever, facts matter. Tell the truth- whether in your content or comments. Spread accurate information that helps people stay informed. Check reputable news sources and don’t spread something without verifying.
- Keep it clean. This is a tough section for us or any network. We are body positive, inclusive, diverse, and accepting, and we want the community to be the same. The realities of being a small team and ensuring a safe platform mean that we need to be specific and fairly broad about what is considered too explicit. Sex trafficking and child grooming are sad realities of our world, and they have absolutely no place on Dispo nor anywhere else. To that end, when it comes to nudity and pornography we have to be careful. We do not allow nudity and pornography. This includes sex acts and genitals. And we do not allow content of nude or partially nude children. We use a third party API that helps us determine and exclude these types of content. Sometimes that system is too cautious. We apologize in advance, but the alternative is to build a community that could potentially spread harmful content. We will do our absolute best.
- Follow the law. We didn’t think we needed to tell you this, but might as well…you can’t do anything on here you can’t do legally in real life. So don’t try to promote, sell, or buy drugs, guns, ammunitions, explosives, or anything else in that vein.
- Talk! We are human too. So reach out on social media or at support@dispo.fun. We know some of these standards are subjective, but you have our word we are doing our absolute best to build the best damn community on Earth! Or in the universe!
DON’T’S
- Don’t be creepy. Don’t harass, talk down, or otherwise speak to someone in an unwelcome manner. This often includes unwanted sexual comments or advances. If someone ignores you or asks you to leave them alone, respect their decision.
- Don’t spam. It is beyond annoying to see fake accounts, likes, comments, posts…you name it. They have no place on Dispo. Leave your phishing scams at home.
- Don't squat on usernames. We hope you understand, but we cannot allow our community members to hold onto usernames that are trademarked by another person or entity.
- Don’t be mean or promote harm.
- This applies to:
- Harassment and bullying
- Extremism and hate (terrorism, organized hate, criminal)
- Violence and abuse
- Revenge
- Shaming
- Self-harm, suicide, and dangerous acts
- This applies to:
Each of these categories of hateful material has no place on Dispo. You may raise awareness of your experiences on harmful subjects, but you may not glorify them or otherwise promote them.
These categories apply to people of all races, genders, sexual orientations, religions, creeds, physical or mental abilities, immigration statuses or other types of identity. Be accepting!
- Don’t be whack. It’s hard to put an exact finger on this one, but don’t do things that violate the spirit of Dispo. Don’t try to cheat the various counts, stats, and fun quirks of the community or otherwise game the system in a way that violates the spirit of Dispo. Please don’t even encourage other people to do it. Don’t sell likes, comments, followers, or anything else.
These guidelines are a living document, so we will update them as we go. Thank you!
